Edit the 3-column-page template to fit your needs and save as home.php. WP should then recognize this template as the homepage automatically.

Instead of my home page defaulting to the index.php file, I'd like it to have it default to a different page parent. So if I want my home page to default to 3-column page, how would I do that?
