Bevor Ihr im Forum postet, lest die Forenregeln. Es werden keine Fragen zu grundlegenden WordPress Funktionalitäten beantwortet. Dafür gibt es die allgemeinen WordPress Foren und den unschlagbaren WordPress Codex. Außerdem empfehle ich zuerst die Tutorials zu lesen, da dort die meisten Fragen beantwortet werden. Für absolute Anfänger, die bisher wenig mit WordPress gearbeitet haben, empfiehlt es sich, ein paar Euro in das e-Book “Sites that Soar” von Aisling d´Art zu investieren. Das Buch erklärt den Aufbau einer Website anhand von BranfordMagazine Schritt für Schritt. Es ist zwar nur in englisch verfügbar, aber doch sehr einfach und verständlich.

Dieses E-Book wird empfohlen für WordPress Neulinge, die BranfordMagazine oder WyntonMagazine verwenden wollen.

Wegen Weihnachts- und Neujahrspause bleibt das Forum vorübergehend geschlossen. Offene Fragen werden in den nächsten Tagen noch beantwortet. Ab Januar steht das Forum dann wieder im vollen Umfang zur Verfügung.

Hey Adam,

To take your questions in turn:

1. I didn't notice any formatting issues when I looked at your site, viewing the site in Firefox 3.0.1.

2 and 3. The answers to both are related. When it comes to managing your content you just need to remember it's all about catagories with this theme. Catagories aren't arbitrary tags describing what's in each post, they're used to dictate where the content specified by each catagory goes. So create catagories that make sense to you, and then organize those catagories, putting them where you want them in the site, by adding the correct catagory numbers to the php code in the various theme files.

For instance, if you want the lead article to remain in place in the main tab, give it a different catagory than the Feature Article catagory you're currently using. Maybe something like “Cover Story”. Then it will stay in place until the next post created using the “cover story” catagory. Giving your lead story a different catagory will also solve the issue you have with the lead feature story being repeated in the left sidebarbelow.  My guess is the reason your most recent post didn't displace the Hagar piece is that you gave it a different catagory.

I've been finding my way around this fairly well — never used WP before and I'm not a programmer or site builder, mostly a journalist.

A couple of questions I can't find satisfactory answers for in either Branford Tutorials or WP Support/Codex help:

1) When I added the teaser images to the Left Column feature articles (see Aersomith and Three Doors Down images), the middle (I think you call it right) column suddenly moved to the left underneath my feature articles teasers. It wasn't that way until I added those two images. What did I do? Any suggestions? I made the images exactly the same size as on the Branford demo site.

2) I don't want the Lead Article to be duplicated in the Featured Articles teasers in the left column — on the Branford mag demo site, the lead article is not duplicated there, so why is on mine? How do I get rid of that?

3) How do I set the lead article to remain in place, say for a couple of weeks at a time, even while I post other articles after it in the same category — as a magazine, I want my lead article to be able to remain in place and not be pushed out by the next post….. Strangely, however, I actually did post the Aerosmith Not Yet Jaded post after the Sammy Hagar post, but it didn't push the Hagar piece out…. Haven't had time to add the next post and see how it reacts, though….

4) When I went in to add these images, WP did not automatically create the correct folder (which, by default, I believe should have been something like /magazine/wp-content/uploads/2008/08) So every time I tried to upload a photo, the result would be an image box with a red x. Finally, I went in through my ftp, found the wp-content folder, then manually created an uploads folder, a 2008 folder in that, and an 08 folder inside that. Then I manually ftp'd my images there, and then they showed up in my featured article teasers….. Why did I have to do all this manually? What am I doing wrong?
