Support Forum

Hi,

Did someone figure this out yet? I would like to add a thumbnail picture in my archives (category) section.  Could someone please share the code or let me know how?

Thanks!

In between posting and you replying I had a real “duhhhh” moment where I realised what I was doing wrong…Mind you you're solution in WyntonMagazine looks so much more stylish. I might have to change it around again!

Thanks for responding so quickly. You are a legend, sir Laughing

Sure this can be done in many ways. I reccomend to download my theme “WyntonMagazine” and take a closer look to the additional page template for the section page. This is kind of an adopted achives page which does what you are requesting I guess. Check out http://wp-themes.der-prinz.com/wyntonmagazine/?page_id=40 and see if that´s what you want.

Mainly it´s taking the code from the imdex.php file of Branford which displays the image thumbnail in the rightcol and add it to the achives.php file which displays the (category) archive.

// this checks to see if an image file exists
    if (isset($values[0])) {
?>
      <a href=”<?php the_permalink() ?>” rel=”bookmark” title=”Permanent Link to <?php the_title(); ?>”><img src=”<?php bloginfo('url'); echo '/'; echo get_option('upload_path'); echo '/'; $values = get_post_custom_values(”rightcolimage”); echo $values[0]; ?>” alt=”” /></a>
      <?php } ?>

Of course you have to edit the code and the css a bit to fit your needs…but that is something I leave with you Cool

So going back to one of the original posters questions, is there a way to include the custom field images within the category archive pages? I've been trying to get the “rightcolimage” custom value to appear alongside the archive results but no joy so far. It might be quite a nice feature to include on the search results too but, for the moment, I was hoping you might be able to provide some guidance.

Cheers!

Thanks Michael, I've just done that. It worked. For those of you who offers RSS, I've downloaded Full Feed plugin to make sure RSS displays full posts.

You can´t add “continue reading” to the excerpt since this does not support any kind of parameters. But you might change the_excerpt into the_content in the code of the relevant file and use the “more” tag when writing.

Hi, I was wondering if there is an easier way to put images to all posts so when you click on Category Name you see the list of posts from this category displayong not only the post excerpt but image as well. I understand you can do it with the help of “Optional excerpt” but I can't figure out how to add “Continue Reading” link to the excerpt. Hope this makes any sense. And thanks a lot in advance for any advice!
