This is the FAQ section. Here you find typical answers on typical questions. Fast and easy without posting in the Support Forums.
I will add more FAQs over the time. So check out the FAQ frequently.
Where can I download theme updates?
You will find the latest versions of the themes you have purchased in the support forum. You need to be registered and activated (also see next question) to be able to download your theme.
Why can´t I see a support section in the forum?
You visit the forum and can only see only few areas?!
This means you obviously don´t have suffcient rights for the forum. Either you are not registered or you are registered and your account hasn´t been updated. Please follow these instructions:
The support forums are only acccessible to registered theme buyers. If you are not logged in as a theme buyer you will not be able to see and access all parts of the forum.
If you purchased a theme and want full access to the support forums please register first as a regular forum member. During registering provide the payment information (e.g transaction ID). Your account will be upgraded as soon as possible.
How can I purchase a theme?
Just go to the “Puchase Themes” page and add the theme(s) you like to buy into the shopping cart. Then click the “Pay” button and you will be redirected to PayPal.
Currently I offer Payment via PayPal account or Creditcard (also via PayPal) only. If you need to pay via money transfer, send me an email.
Is the Theme available in my Language?
By default my themes are in English and they come with a German translation file. That means that they can be used in English or German by default. But due to the fact that they are build to support gettext localization you can easily translate them into your language.
I reccomend to use a plugin called “Codestyling Localization” for the translation because it makes it really easy. Have a look at the plugins homepage for more details.
Inside the themes folder (the one that goes to your themes directory unter wp-content/themes) you will find a subfolder “/languages”. Inside this folder there are two files called de_DE.mo and de_DE.po. The .mo file is the finished German translation. If your WordPress installation is in German your theme will also be in German.
If you want to translate into another language just install the plugin mentioned before and follow its instructions. Use de_DE.po as the reference language catalogue. Name it for example fr_FR.po (for French) move it to the languages folder, go to the localization plugin interface and do the translations.
How can I upgrade from a free to a PRO version of the themes?
You simply can´t. PRO versions need to be treated like complete new themes (what they actualy are)
How can I update Themes if new versions are released?
Every now and then I release updates (or new versions) for my themes. This is because new WordPress version require technical changes or because I want to add functionality. Updating a theme is not as simple as updating WordPress in most cases. There is no automatic update and you should not just replace the old themes files with the new ones on your server. In most cases an update is more like a new version or a complete new install of a theme.
When you run an update (no matter if WordPress, a plugin or a theme) always backup your files and database. If anything fails you can revert to the working version if you have a backup.
It also makes sense to have a look at the specific page of the theme (under themes in the navigation menu) before you update. There you always find a changelog that lists the changes and new features as well as the changed files. Sometime only one or two files need to be replaced. But bigger updates require a complete new install because almost any file has changed. In this case you should change the name of the older theme version from e.g. “branfordmagazine-pro” to “branfordmagazine-pro-old” before you upload the new files.
You need to be aware that any changes you made to the themes files (such as CSS changes) will be lost with a new version. That´s not specific for my themes that´s always the case with other themes as well (unless you use child themes). Even if you would have made changes to WordPress core files they would be gone after an update. That´s why it´s always recommended not to change WordPress core files.
WordPress says “Stylesheet missing” after activation of the theme. What can I do?
The downloaded Zip-archive contains a folder called “PRiNZ_BranfordMagazine_pro” (or similar in case of another theme). This folder contains the themes folder and additional stuff (e.g. Plugins, PSD files, example images etc.) and the readme files. The themesfolder is called “branfordmagazine-pro” (in case of BranfordMagazine of course) and only this folder and its content needs to be uploaded to your themes directory (in …/wp-content/themes) and not the complete download folder “PRiNZ_BranfordMagazine_pro”. By no means you should use the WordPress “install theme” function because that will cause errors and “missing stylsheet” messages.
How can I remove the double “Continue reading” from the lead article?
Everytime WordPress generates an excerpt of an article the excerpt function outputs a “continue reading” link at the end of the excerpt. In the leadarticle of some themes this link displays twice because there is an additional function build in to this area. In the themes versions that have been released on January 12th 2012 you will find a checkbox on the optionspage to simply remove the double “continue reading” link.
